SECRET!

Art lovers and bargain hunters mark your calendars! The anonymous SECRET! Art exhibit and sale is off to a raging start! To date, over 160 artists have confirmed their participation in this exciting show.  SECRET! a unique four-day exhibit and fundraiser begins May 16th in the
Union Station Grand Lobby next to the Gallery at the Station.

Artists are generously donating new works on 5x7 canvases, each of which will be sold for $99 in drawings at the close of the show Saturday, May 19th. Adding to the anticipation, the identity of the artists will remain unknown until the
final night when canvases are purchased and signatures are revealed on the back!

For a cool $99 you might steal away with a Brian Kershisnik, a Steve Songer, a Blanche Wilson, an Adreian Van Suchtelen, a Paul Butler, a Gary Collins, or grab hold of an up and coming artist, a favorite local, an unknown, a celebrity, or a talent from elsewhere in the state!

This sounds really fun, but how will it work?  First, preview the work! Visit the Union Station the week of May 16th, from 10am-5pm daily! Previewing the work will give you a let up on the rest of the crowd! You'll be able to breeze in the night of the sale and write your name on a registry sheet for a chance to purchase the masterpiece of your choice.

The registry sheets will be run like a drawing. Accompanying each painting will be a registry sheet for a limit of ten names. The night of the sale, Saturday May 19th, an admission of $10 will buy you a SECRET! pencil so you may "bid" on multiple images, in hopes of being drawn for the right to purchase one or more.

We encourage you to write your name on as many canvases as you love, increasing your chances of taking home a "prize." At the close of the evening, names will be drawn for the paintings that have more than one name; those with only one name will automatically be sold to the lucky person who signed for it. You will have the option to decline a painting if you "won" too many-provided there is another buyer.  The sale and reception will be held Saturday May 19th from 5:30-9:00 PM.  Final preview and bidding is from 5:30-7:30 PM. We will begin the drawings for canvases at 7:30 PM sharp; signing up for the drawing on remaining canvases may continue until those pieces are called.

SECRET! is the deal of the year! The chance to take home a prize painting, perhaps be a well-known artist, the night of the show for just $99 doesn't come around very often! How can you beat it?

THANK YOU ARTISTS AND ART AFICIONADOS!
Both the artists' donations and your purchases will directly support the Union Station Foundation and its world class museums and The Gallery at the Station and its growing exhibition program committed to bringing dynamic art
experiences to Utah.

The Wrap Up:  Preview SECRET! at the Union Station Grand Lobby Tuesday, May 16th through Friday, May 18th from 10am-5pm daily, and Saturday until the reception and bidding begins.  Saturday, May 19th join us at the Gallery at the Station in the Union Station Grand Lobby from 5:30 pm-9:00 PM for the reception and sale!  Purchase your SECRET! pencil for $10 for the opportunity to sign up
for the drawings on the canvases you love. Sign up begins at 5:30 PM sharp!

Participating artists receive a complimentary pencil. Watch the drama unfold beginning at 7:30 PM! Winners will be drawn, and the question on everyone's mind. "Who are the SECRET! artists?" will be answered!

Union Station Historic Passenger Canopy Being Restored

The passenger canopy between tracks one and two is one of the last and longest with the butterfly roof pattern in existence.   The Total cost of restoration is $495,000. We have all but $50,000 of it that we will need for electrical work.

The project started on March 15, 2007 and will go through September. CK Construction has the contract for the restoration work which includes removing and replacing the decking and roof, drainage and paint. This is a partnership between Union Station Foundation, Ogden City and Save America’s Treasures (National Park Service).

Workmen, using protective clothing and masks, remove the old roof planking and loose paint on the steel supports and beams.

A week later and about 1/4 of the roof planking is gone as of April 5.

The first two supports are given a coat of dark green paint.
